Photograph: Fr. Pascall aboard a boat off the Cedros coast

[Description] Fr. Pascall, in a white shirt and his glasses, sits in a boat seen from behind and to the side, looking across the water toward a shoreline village of houses and palms — the Cedros coast. A crewman stands at the bow; coiled ropes and gear fill the stern; part of a third person's shoulder is visible at the left edge.

[Restoration note] The print's top-left corner was badly water-damaged — the emulsion there was destroyed, not just faded. In this presentation copy the ruined sky has been rebuilt from the photograph's own intact sky (mirrored from the right side of the same print, brightness-matched and feathered in). What the water took below the skyline — including the bow crewman's face — could not be recovered and has not been invented. The untouched master (book2-p008.jpg) preserves the photograph exactly as it survives.
